Microsoft is discontinuing Publisher in October 2026…..it’s surprising who still uses this application, as I switched it off recently and found who was using it!! Best to plan to move over to a new design system see below for more detail….
Key reasons for the discontinuation include:
Redundancy: Most tasks (templates, flyers, brochures) are now handled by Word and PowerPoint.
Modernisation & Cloud Shift: Microsoft is focusing on AI-powered design tools (Microsoft Designer) and cloud-native applications.
Aging Codebase: As a legacy app, maintaining and updating Publisher’s architecture is less efficient compared to modernising other apps.
After October 13, 2026, Microsoft 365 subscribers will no longer have access to Publisher, and on-premises versions will cease to be supported. Users are encouraged to switch to alternatives like Microsoft Designer, Word, or third-party tools such as Canva or Affinity Publisher
